For those wondering, yes, Neil Diamond plays a mean saxophone dick.

I love Neil. Too bad his voice sounds like he gargled hot acid and rocks now.

I have been working on this song all week and lemme tell ya, if you can play this - CORRECTLY - good on ya.
But it is one of the funkiest things I've ever heard, and I'm from New Orleans.

Finding myself surprised by the release of the final 5 Felt reissues, it looks like that's all I'll be listening to for a bit. Over the course of the past six months, I've come to realize I've spent $500 alone on this one band, and I feel completely fine with that.

And, yes, I also bought the one that Lawrence doesn't even show up at the recording studio for. Good thing I like the vibes.

Dark Souls soundtrack composer Motoi Sakuraba is also a damn good instrumental prog rock musician:

Springsteen is one of the greats, that I really don't listen to very often. Frankly, I just don't like cars that much. That said, I'm a fan of both Wild and the Innocent and Born to Run, but barely listen to anything else by him. It's been years since I put this one on, and I always remember it as just a really restrained collection of songs, and restraint is not really what I look for in Springsteen. But in that restraint, there is a muted version of the desperation that is in all of his best work. The first half of this album is incredible. The second half isn't bad either.

A great album that everyone already knows is great, that I have just become wise to.

I think I prefer Wild & Innocent (it is the most faithful reproduction of what the prime E Street Band sounded like on stage), but Darkness seems more commonly taken for granted between the pillars of Born To Run and Nebraska. I rarely listen to it, truth be told, and only most recently revisited it in any depth a few years back when The Promise box set was released. But it is objectively, undeniably a great album, and I wouldn't be able to argue with anyone that it's his most significant as an artistic statement.

As for my own listening, I've been enjoying Keef Hartley recently.

The only thing I know about Keef Hartley is Gary Thain was their bassist. And that's only because Gary Thain was in Uriah Heep.

The Keef Hartley Band was apparently the only band to play at Woodstock who wasn't recorded or filmed.

Ooo, I actually think I knew this too.

But there is still so much to learn.

My hopes of Keef Hartley knowledge is quivering with anticipation.

Big Thief - Capacity

A pretty straightforward great band with great lead singer. I generally like bands that push at the boundaries a little more, but this is just a lean monster of great songwriting.

Sounds like Black Crowes took a lot of influence from them:

It sounded vaguely like the chorus from "She Came in Through the Bathroom Window".

Or something from the Bee Gees' Trafalgar. I'm not close and it's frustrating.

Uriah Heep's "Traveller in Time" is even closer and should have been obvious to me earlier. There's something similar in the first three lines of the chorus.

So I don't know why this wasn't a bigger story a year ago... Jai Paul came out of "retirement" and started producing for/working with up and coming artists, and this type of stuff came out of it:

Been listening to it quite a bit, plus the new Ben Khan album (and he was obviously influenced by Paul):

Greta Van Fleet has been on my playlist, too, even if I'm having somewhat of a hard time getting past the near Led Zeppelin cover band sound. They're great, but I think their next album might be more original.

Been listening to them since the beginning, they are from my backyard (Frankenmuth, Michigan). The latest album "Anthem of a Peaceful Army" is the cats ass. Considering how they have further advanced from the sound of the debut album is pleasing to these ears.

Well, yeah.

But Michael Jackson offers a dilemma. I personally have always liked a number of Hall and Oates songs which elevate them above their bland ham sandwich image. And a couple of these songs, I feel, do compare favorably to MJ: "I Can't Go For That" or "Maneater" perhaps have a slinky funk that could be compared to something like "Smooth Criminal" or "Off The Wall", and H&O's pop hits ("Kiss is on My List", "Private Eyes", "Make My Dreams Come True") can certainly compete with the likes of "Rock With You", "P.Y.T.", "Way You Make Me Feel", etc.

But H&O has a tight ceiling on their R&B, and they could never drop bombs like "Don't Stop Till You Get Enough", "Wanna Be Starting Something", not to mention Jacksons hits like "Dancing Machine" and "Shake Your Body". The best H&O excursion into soul music resulted in their excellent ballad, "She's Gone", which was so good Tavares took it, and that might actually be the bigger compliment.

I'm obviously taking the piss when I say Uriah Heep was better than Michael Jackson, but I am also considerably more likely to put on something by UH. UH were just every bad rock and roll reflex condensed into this marvellously stupid and sloppy band. As for Jackson, I've just never got the hype for his recorded material (I instinctively understand his greatness as both a performer and icon though). Off the Wall is a really good album, and I'd argue is his best. But I literally never listen to it. Thriller to me has always just been a really sheen and ultimately really bland pop album. Wanna Be Starting Something is the one track that seems to warrant the critical hysteria over Thriller and Billy Jean is an incredibly resilient song considering how over played it is. But I just find nothing terribly interesting about the rest. I don't have any emotional attachment to it. It is just this monolithic artifact from the 80's, that feels like all production and no soul.

As for the rest of Jacksons output, from Bad to Dangerous on onward, I absolutely hate it all.

And for the record, I am not considering anything by Jackson 5. This is all strictly about his solo career.

I was recently introduced to K-Pop, specifically K/DA's song "Pop/Star," which they played for the League of Legends championship opening ceremony.
I've never listened to anything this ridiculously catchy and infectous. It's no wonder it's such a huge part of that country's economy.
