The new Joanna Newsom album is fantastic and has exceeded my supremely high expectations. I'm still debating whether or not I prefer it to Ys but suffice it to say, it was definitely worth the long wait. March can't come soon enough so I can finally see her live! :D

It's not bad, but what's with the cover?

I get the urge to listen to it a couple of times a day and the fact that it's followed by my 2nd favorite song on the album makes me listen to both songs...and then the rest of the album...again.

It's an incredibly strong album with no weak songs. It flows perfectly too. Love it.

Been listening to Yeasayer's Odd Blood since last night, it's my first experience with the band and I'm liking it.

I'm also alternating between Teen Dream and Contra as well. Love both.

I haven't got tired of it yet, but I have quite a few albums lined up to listen to. So I will eventually stop listening to it.

But, yeah, I love those tracks. Diplomat's Son is probably my favorite though.

What do you think of his 'experimental'/Basterds disc of Orphans? I dig that a lot, as well.

I've been listening to a lot of Beirut and Belle And Sebastian for the last few days. I'm not sure why I'm doing it, but it seems like a good decision.

As much as I love Tom Waits, I could never get into Mule Variations. It always seemed less cohesive than his best albums, more like a collection of good songs that just don't relate to each other. Consequently I've liked it less with every listen.

Alice though, that is some music for the ages. Blood Money, too.

My final thoughts on it were that it was perhaps not as good as Ys, but amazingly consistent for a 3 disc album.

I will be really surprised if she ever tops Ys. That's a monumental album. But I really like the way her voice sounds on this one.

i think this is damn close to as good as Ys. the styles changes up a bit more, and it's still terribly consistent. it's almost as if she just released three albums at once.

Have One on Me (the song) is as good as anything on Ys, and before it, as well, it is as radiant piece of her type of music you could possibly ask for. Of course, I have only heard that and Easy, which I am also very fond of.

How does it feel! Well, my pocket Dylan.

Heard anything else by them?

Gutter Tactics is worth avoiding, but From Filthy Tongue Of Gods And Griots and Absence are both kind of stunning, though the former is rather punishing at times. Both are hotter, noisier and angrier than Abandoned Language.

I've been a '70's progressive rock junkie lately. I'm talking U.K., Emerson, Lake and Palmer, King Crimson, and all of that good stuff.
Does anyone know anything from the 90's or the 2000's that belongs in that vein? Aside from The Tangent's "The Music That Died Alone," most modern progressive rock has been "metal"-ized.

Porcupine Tree and the Mars Volta. Recommend you start at the beginning with TMV. If the Tremulant EP doesn't grab you, Deloused in the Comatorium definitely will.

I've been listening to the Mass Effect 2 soundtrack lately. First the Humanity theme grabbed me, then Thane's theme, and lately it's been Jacob's that rocks my boat.
