Or Kaiba. It doesn't matter too much what one you get to next, they're all exemplary anime. Whatever one's synopsis appeals more, I guess.

Wrote a wee preview of the upcoming local anime festival.

Will sadly miss the Makoto Shinkai in-person appearance.

So, am I the only one who saw Regular Show's New Year's Eve special?
Probably yes.

It was goooood.

I'm always 5 episodes behind on Regular Show.

Bob's Burgers kind of reminds of Daria in a good way, also, I can legitimately watch anything H. Jon Benjamin lends his voice to.

You should check this out, then...

Oh no, the presence of Seth McFarlane's voice acting and sense of humor is more than enough to keep me far away from that.

You should catch up. The Thanksgiving Special and this last episode were excellent. Also I want somebody to discuss the show with.

If you are comparing it to Daria, it means I must watch it.

Well, the first season, is less tactful than the others - but that dryness in the punch-lines makes me think of Daria - it's more Simpsons-esque in episodic structure.

Still sounds good. I'll try it soon.

Wolf des Winters, are you now a working mental healthcare professional? If so, how much does it cut down on the time you have to watch movies? And if you are working, is it at a hospital or a clinic? City or rural?

In other words, how ya doin' hombre?

Post Re: The Animation Thread

Believe I posted elsewhere on the forum how much I enjoyed Rise of the Guardians, and how unexpected it was that I liked it at all. Jack Frost was unexpectedly empathetic, rather than merely pathetic. And I liked the other Guardians, as well as the little human critters who get involved with them. It was an unrequested Christmas present from son #1 and his lady.

He recommended Epic to me, which I got from teh Frix. Watched it last weekend, and it was okay, but seemed much more derivative, and wasn't as snappy.

Post Re: The Animation Thread

Last night I watched part of Rise of the Guardians with the commentary track. As I watched the images more or less without the story to distract me I began to notice the tiny, but amazing animation touches that the staff includes in nearly every scene. The one that really blew me away was when I noticed that Jack's toes (he has bare feet for the entire film, I think) are individually animated...in nearly every scene where they appear. This is just a small touch (although a lot of work), but it adds an almost subliminal quality of being alive to the CGI puppet on the screen. And there are dozens of these little touches. I was entranced by the animation in How to Train Your Dragon, especially when I realized that it wasn't mo-cap, but key-frame animation most of the way. Now this one seems to top even that work.

I'm going to devote some hours tonight to appreciating the rest of the commentary track, and then I might just watch the entire film again to catch more of these little animation gems.

Maybe that's why this Dreamworks Animation film, and the Dragon one have such a cinematic quality: they hired a crack cinematographer to coach the camera "operators" in the animation department!

Masaaki Yuasa was granted a new series by madhouse.. guess they don't mind losing money. I don't think anything he's done with them has made money for the studio because Japanese audiences rejected it all, I'm glad they keep on giving stuff to him though.

Ping-Pong: The Animation, it's about as good as you'd expect from a series directed by Yuasa.

Legend of Korra: Book 3 trailer.

I don't know if it's official or fan made (with the help of the leaked episodes) but... wow. I think it is fan made.
