We had a fire in my apartment building on Monday morning, the floor above mine. I heard it was either an electrical issue or a meth lab.

Probably the meth lab.

It's playing in about 400 theaters and doing very well. I'm sure further expansions will happen.

Happy Birthday, Ace.

My latest obsession is watching movie analyses and video essays on YouTube.
Here are some good channels I've found; does anyone know any other good ones?

-Every Frame a Painting
-Sean McDougall
-Storytellers

Nerdwriter's videos aren't always about movies, but when they are, they're among the best film analyses on YouTube. I highly recommend his video on How Alfred Hitchcock Blocks a Scene.

Yeah, I usually <3 The Nerdwriter's work, especially his video on the fatal flaw with BvS:

From what I've heard, they haven't finalized him as its director yet, but still, just imagining the possibility of it alone...

I hear the Enterprise will be shaped like a foot, and a Starfleet hazing ritual involving a 3-foot dildo will be heavily featured

"Folding Ideas" is fantastic if you're into new media and editing. His channel blew up some after his savage and clear takedown of Suicide Squad.

"Game Makers Toolkit" by Mark Brown is fantastic if you're into game design. His "Boss Keys" Zelda series stands out, but I prefer his unpacking of fundamental platform design.

And only 6 more days 'til The Last Jedi, which I'm genuinely, honestly excited for, not just as a Star Wars fan, but as a "hey, this new Star Wars movie actually looks really, really really good". Well, for me, it's actually just 5 more days 'til TLJ, since my local theaters are having some early showings of it on Thursday, and I've already bought an advance ticket to one. Here's hoping it's at least somewhat better than the last advance showing I bothered checking out, which was... fucking Justice League...

Wow. If I wasn't at my friend's house tonight watching French television I would have never known Johnny Hallyday died. 100,000 people were on the streets of France for his funeral. Big loss. Not one mention here on NPR.

PS - Yeah, you'd have to pay me to see Justice League.

Tropical Freeze is one of the GoAT platforming games. And then you add David Wise's sensual jazzy music and man you have a classic.

I'm very curious about how the new movie will be, I'm not so so so invested in the franchise that I'm expecting to have many strong feelings no matter the quality, mostly I'm just looking forward to hanging out with my friends before and after we see the movie. the energy I get in the room seeing these on opening weekend is what I imagine it feels like to be in church when it's 100% full of true-believers.

I also predict that Chewbacca will adopt one of those cute bird things and name it "Han". and y'all will eat that up.

The porg became a toy before the movie came out. It is cuter than an ewok

JL wasn't a bad movie per se, and it certainly wasn't anywhere near as big a disastrous clusterfuck as Batman Vs. Superman, but the converse of that is, it's a much less ambitious, interesting film to dissect for its failures. It's almost the worse film in a sense since it's far more generic/mediocre as a result. Better to be hot or cold than lukewarm, am I right?

speaking of which, I bet someone major is going to die and someone major is going to turn 'evil' (until the next movie when they become 'good'). otherwise how else we will we know this movie is the DAAAARRRRRK SECOND CHAPTER.

what with all the awards buzz around Mark Hamill, I have to imagine he's going to be the former. and maybe Rey kills him. and that's why she's evil! but Luke was kind of an asshole. so maybe it's ambiguous! ambiguous enough that Rey isn't beyond redemption? probably!

I've never seen any on-line and I've been doing the torrent thing for years. I know they have A Time To Live, A Time To Die but I don't know how old that one is or where to find it. You might have to ask for an invite to karagarga.
