For pertinent 2014 music experiences. Get yr. hype up.

Raekwon and Pharoahe Monch have new records this year, supposedly. Besides that it's early in the year.

Elzhi's new album will be out this year, as well, but I might be his only fan here

Excited about those two, anyway

Anyone have musical festival experiences? Outkast is playing the Governors Ball this year. I don't know about the price and handling the crowds.

Get to the big sets early, have deodorant ON YOUR PERSON at all times, you'll sweat a lot in crowds, and the bigger the pass you buy, the more of a value it is to you typically.

Oh, and if it's in a place not near hotels, figure out how many public bathrooms are on the grounds, and what's the closest town because being able to take a shower is worth hotel prices, just leave early to dodge traffic back into the festival grounds.

Great advice. The festivals you've been to have been worth it?

Yeah, they have - I've only really had one bad Festival experience and that was mostly my fault for not anticipating that the stuff I wanted to see would fill up before the sets started.

Had no idea Xiu Xiu and The Hold Steady were still alive.

Since this is a music thread you should share your listening set-up, got AKG k702s and Grado sr325is' I power through a fiio e17 headphone amp for PC playback, got a reliable Technics sl-1200 turntable for vinyl playback, use my PC if I get a CD and rip it in.

HiFiMAN HE-500 or Denon AH-D2000 with a Matrix M-Stage at home. Beyerdynamic T70p with a Topping TP30 at work.

How do you like the HiFiMANs? They're tempting to me - although I should probably put more in on a nicer amp/DAC first, even though the Fiio does a great job for what it cost me.

Well they are really big open ear cans, after all, I assume the build quality's excellent as well which usually contributes to weight (I know going from sr225i's to the sr325is, there's a huge jump in materials quality, metal housing over plastic, reinforced leather headband, they feel like a step up from the moment you hold them, and added weight.)

edit- said closed, corrected there.

They're open, but certainly big. You could probably knock out an intruder with them.

I'm only an amateur audiophile at best. Bowers & Wilkins P3 (replacing my Triport which finally broke after 3 years of loyal use); Microlabs Fc360; RHA MA350 for when I'm on the go. No amp, unless you count Winamp (sorry, that was lame). I'm still back and forth on whether I want to get a vinyl player, any specific recommendations?

Get a DAC/Amp way before getting a vinyl player. For vinyl recommendations, my player goes for anywhere between 500-1500 USD online now so I'd not recommend it to someone who's not a vinyl head already and wants to get into it. I think Audio Technica makes some affordable, but quality vinyl players for under 100 dollars.

Guitar music is dead. Everything is just revival shit it feels like. We need a new wave of INNOVATIVE CRAZY ROCK BANDS.

The last time I think this happened was in the mid 2000s when Time of Orchids, Kayo Dot, Zs, Extra Life etc. were all playing with each other. There were a lot of new interesting noise rock bands at that point too if I remember.

fiio e17 was 140-ish USD when I got it, I have a nice old tube amp for my vinyl player that was a hand-me-down.

250-400 is the sweet spot for DAC/Amp combos I think. I kind of want a Woo DAC/amp combo.. then I realize it'll set me back about a grand, but I hear such great, great things about them and it tempts me again.

I agree with Takeshi - the 'rock' music I listen to on a regular basis now either comes from bands that have been around since the mid-aughts or earlier, I don't find new stuff exciting enough anymore. I dig some of the revival bands that hit on stuff I'm a total sucker for, like what Tennis and Cults are doing.

Get your hands on a Grado sr60/80i, or a Koss PortaPro, or Sennheiser's low-mid end, or AKG or something - To add insult and injury the Apple earbuds are more damaging to your hearing than most over-ear headphones that give you a vastly better listening experience anyway.

I don't, uh, wanna go anywhere. So can you recommend something from here?

http://www.amazon.ca/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_c_0 ... Caps%2C273

As long as it's on Canadian Amazon, and costs less than $40, I could be persuaded. I'm kind of sick of earbuds, so if it's actual headphones, I'd be a happy cat.

Can that stretch 15 over?

http://www.amazon.ca/Koss-PortaPro-Head ... s+portapro

Because as far as 'first real headphones' go these are pretty damn good at their price point.

I'm sure we could do that. Or I guess just DAS could do it cause why not.

Does anyone have the new John Frusciante album called Medieval Chamber? It's a collab record with the rap group Black Knights. Not getting any soulseek hits for it.

It's on What.CD, so I'd imagine it'll be on Soulseek soon. Also, it's just labeled "Black Knights". Frusciante isn't one of the featured artists.

I just listened to a few tracks from the album. I'm a fan of Frusciante, but this flat out sucks. The rappers have no flow whatsoever, and at least a few of the tracks use drum loops that have been used about a billion times already.
