One last image from Rai, again featuring a tree, but this one is not part of his Trees series. Yet it speaks to how unassumingly pervasive trees are in our world, and how simply drawing attention to them makes a series like Trees so distinctive.

Stanley Kubrick. Brooklyn. New York. 1947.

Kubrick needs no introduction, but he worked as a photographer before transitioning into filmmaking. Only a few of his photographs stand out, but I like this one for its sense of depth, and as an informal artifact of time and place.
