And thus LEAVES ends another discussion with a statement bearing little weight on the initial topic... but at least he feels better about himself for having said it :)

Uhh, the inescapable nature of the gimmick of filmmaking has nothing to bear on your nitpicking of a couple of films for their gimmicks which, by your acknowledgment of them, do nothing but impair your ability to appreciate anything of worth associated with them? Sounds like it's entirely relevant. But, then, I'm not looking for things to hate.

Post Re: The 100 Best Films of the 2000's: A Corrierino Consensus

I thought I at least implied that there are things I do appreciate about Russian Ark (Memento is another story). It's funny you bring up nit-picking, though... I was about to say the same about you but decided against it because I knew you'd just come back at me with some other accusation. As far as this "nit-picking" you're referring to goes... how would you expect me to experience a film without being able to acknowledge it? I suppose I could revert to my four-year-old self and simply absorb whatever someone put in front of me with not even an inkling as to how I might even begin to analyze its quality... but I think I used up my last revert-to-a-former-age token at the fair last week when they said I was too old to jump in the ball pit. The point I was trying to make with my last post is that in the several debates I've either read or participated in on this forum that you were a part of, you typically find either a minor detail or a broad statement to latch on to and use to prove yourself right no matter what the discussion was. Taking the discussion about gimmicks driving films and how they can be presented and invalidating it by saying, in so many words, "Well, all films are gimmicks simply through the act of being films" is... well, it's just that - an invalidation of the very discussion the same way one might say "Who cares about healthcare reform... we're all gonna die someday."

I wouldn't take it too seriously.

I'm pregnant.

Heh, appeal to popularity doesn't fly with me.

The current debate is slightly amusing.

46. The House of Mirth- Terrence Davies

Thought it was alright, but a little surprising to see it making the cut.

100 films better than Minority Report from the 00's?

That is a surprise.

I don't like Minority Report as much as you... it wouldn't make my top 10 (or even my top 20 or 30, probably...) of the 00's... but I'm glad I'm not alone in liking it. It's my favorite Spielberg.
