Thanks Genie I think atmosphere is the most important response mechanism for me so if I've created that I'm happy.

I was just outbid on this item!
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/400802194617?ssP ... 1423.l2649

You may laugh at me but I have a serious suspicion for a number of reasons that this is a final stage oil sketch by Veronese in preparation of a bigger piece. Or something that can be attributed to him (his pupils). I wish I didn't have a budget but mine was $1605 USD and wasn't enough for a last second win. Worst case scenario it's worth a couple grand. Provenance and actually realizing an attribution is a bitch though.

Anybody going to be in NYC next Thursday? I have seven pieces in a group show titled Emerging Transformation

I also was recently contacted to produce 4 8x8 works for a show in Italy this coming November-December.

On my way to post a question about Emerging Transformation in the Crew thread, I found this. So, now I have my answer. :D I'm not sure I knew the name of the show. Maybe you posted that over in the Crew thread when you made us first aware of it.

How is Behance? I haven't used it... care to share your thoughts? Pros/cons?

Thanks hank, I still want to collaborate on something one day, I don't know if I've said that but yeah.

Behance is really nice if you use the groups, I went from DA where I gathered about the same amount of views in 5 years as I did in about a year on behance, part of that I'd like to think has to do with the fact that I'm a much better artist than I was 5 years ago, but another part of it is it's more appreciative of original work unlike communities like tumblr and deviantart, which tend to lean heavily towards catering to already existing tropes/fanbases/etc.

As far as interface, it's really easy to use, the phone app is actually something I use a ton, as it lets me keep up on other artists on the go and it's really nice for showing your work on the go when you get caught without a computer or portfolio as the site looks clean and professional enough to show other people. I'd recommend it, though definitely find groups to help promote your stuff, you'll get a lot more milage out of views/etc.

The only real con I can think of is like a lot of online portfolio services, it's pretty crowded, and people like you and me which specialize in largely traditional mediums are kind of rarities in a site that was originally meant for digital art, but I haven't been too bothered by either of those things a whole lot.

Post Re: The Sketchbook Project and Other Visual Arts Stuff

I admire the abstraction that "tries" to become representational in your work. I think the attempt at representation is my brain responding to your exquisite life forms (that's my own mental term for them, because they seem to be just barely this side of living and moving) and masses of color. There is interplay that may be purposeful on your part, or may be accidental...but it works. And I want to parrot Hank in saying that it has been delightful to watch you come into your own as an artist.

As for Behance, hell after you photograph a painting it becomes digital, so don't worry about being out of place over there! You aren't, and you never were. :D

If we lived in the same state, I'm sure a collaboration would've already happened. I think you're current work would combine extremely well with my landscape paintings. It would be awesome to have some of your forms and line work emerging out of my treelines and vice-versa with my fields emerging out of your forms.

Thanks for the insights to Behance. I really haven't done anything with displaying online since deviant art in my college days. Currently I post on Instagram, mainly due to the convenience of it.

Shipping costs cross-country really aren't so bad until you get something over 24 by 24, it'd be pretty easy to mail something. It's just a matter of coordinating it.

edit - Thanks for the very kind words, gort. It's always interesting to me what I see while painting, and what people see when the see the work with unbiased and uninformed(of my intent) perspectives.

Also, I like the bright colors in traz's paintings, which at least to me, add a bit of humor to what looks like a pretty dark scene (the way the torso on the green figure isn't visible is unsettling in a good way).

Love this one.

And Hank i enjoy your technique and colouring a lot, pretty great. I would guess oil, but i know acrylic painters are starting to use texture more and more, with things like molding paste, etc around.

My painting is a bit of a joke. The project was to go through many different phases of a work before settling on one image. So it used to look like all these

Image

The painting it became is based on some graffiti I saw in the lecture hall. I like it because it's a bit bold in its use of colour and line, but it's also crude. I had my best critique ever with that painting. Though people always compare my work to native art because of the bright colours, big lines, and flatness of the image.

So I'm taking part in this thing called Inktober. It basically comes down to making a fully inked sketch/illustration for every day of October. I'll probably give up after three days, but until than I'll post my entries here. (Unless that bothers y'all.)

But give it a chance if you feel like it. You don't need to crank something out everyday. You can skip a day whenever you want to. As long as you're having fun while doing it.
