I'd have no problem uploading/hosting the film for whomever. I just wanna know what Maiden's limitations are. If she's downloaded from one of us before, then it would seem I'd be free to choose whatever.

Alright, here are the options I've chosen. I'm going to bed right now, so I don't have time to find the KG or IMDb links to each one of these, but here they are (asterisk indicates special interest from me):
The Road (Serif Gören/Yilmaz Güney, 1982) Bad Luck (Andrzej Munk, 1960) Snow (Aida Begic, 2008) Dry Season (Mahamat-Saleh Haroun, 2006)* Restless Blood (Teuvo Tulio, 1946) 27 Down (Awtar Krishna Kaul, 1973) The Land (Youssef Chahine, 1969)* Daughter in Law (Hodzhakuli Narliev, 1972)*

Re: Class Trip #8: Malina (1991, Schroeter)
Sorry I didn't get around to this last night. I'll have it up soon. Maybe we can make it a Sunday to Sunday thing? Or, well, Monday to Monday? I'd like to hear anyone else's favored film to watch if they have a preference. Since this is about trying to get as many people to participate as possible, I don't want to pick only something I'm really interested in.

Re: Class Trip #8: Malina (1991, Schroeter)
Four years later, I'm watching the three Corrie Class Trip films I failed to see at the time. This was one of them, and honestly I hated it - I've seen The Death of Maria Malibran, too, and I didn't like its high-style drag baroque either, but if I had hopes that they'd be more bearable when married to a functioning narrative as opposed to a more experimental set of visual tableaux I was wrong. I know this is some people's idea of a nice aesthetic but I just found it grating, and it's worsened by the pointless chaos of the story, which wants to be Zulawski but isn't. The male leads are duds, the Euro-ness fucking trite (honestly, who writes most of these French movies of this vein) and whew, this might be the only bad Huppert performance I've seen - this kind of balls-to-the-wall melodrama is not what she's suited for at all, forcing her to eschew detail to focus on emotional sound and fury which clashes with her character-focused approach and honestly makes her seem increasingly amateur as the drama gets higher- and higher-pitched. Not my thing, but no one can say Schroeter doesn't try to make things interesting (he just fails at it) so he gets a point for effort.

Re: Class Trip #8: Malina (1991, Schroeter)
I mean French philosophical film where characters say things like "the door is open, yet I can't pass through it" after pacing around a room in carefully choreographed formations over 5 minutes of long take, characters crying for no reason, small children popping around corners in dark houses holding balloons and shit metaphorically etc

But, where your hypothetical film is using philosophy and psychology, Malina is more like philosophy/psychology using film. It helps that I feel that Schroeter is terribly intelligent (I'm tantalized by the ideas, but don't understand them) and also that the images are rich and thought-provoking (not just baffling or pretentious). But, I really came in here to say that you've reminded me how much I loved this "class trip" series. Sure, we (I) picked badly at times, but it was a great way to see new things and provoke discussion.

I've got a viewing project planned out through July but if there are enough posters supporting the idea a bit later in the year I'm totally down! We've all surely seen so much in the past four years I'm sure the choices will be verrry esoteric haha

Re: Class Trip #8: Malina (1991, Schroeter)
hi longtime lurker here, how bout Sat 8/5/17 for the new class trip series? snapper, will your project be done by then and can you pick the movie? (loved your response to Malina, disagree with everything you said but laughed in complete understanding of your perspective and peeves ) also in re-reading these threads, it may be beneficial to have a running "scheduling/coordinating/in-out-late" thread for non-discussion and then a thread wholly abt discussion on each movie maybe?

Re: Class Trip #8: Malina (1991, Schroeter)
hmm, the point of the project is to choose something that we'd expect few if any corrie members to have seen already, preferably by a director whose work we're unlikely to have touched, so... let me think.
here's some ideas, just from what i have on hand on my computer HD. havent checked to see if there's subs for them but there probably are:
Nostalgia for the Countryside (1995 - Đặng Nhật Minh) Mossane (1996 - Safi Faye) La merveilleuse vie de Jeanne d'Arc (1929 - Marco de Gastyne) Dragon's Return (1968 - Eduard Grecner) La maternelle (1933 - Marie Epstein & Jean-Benoît Lévy)
and one i'm excited for but haven't downloaded yet and can probably grab from Avistaz -
Japanese Girls Never Die (2016 - Daigo Matsui)
Faye is probably the best known name here, though I haven't seen any of her films yet. Any other recommendations, hit me! (though I'm out of bonus on KG and the NZ seed-priority thing is still an issue so someone will either have to load me up or dropbox their selection)
