I haven't found the time to watch anything in the last few days, unfortunately. I do have the Twin Peaks theme music constantly circling in my head, though.

I've been playing the Fargo opening theme once an hour for the past few days.

Band of Outsiders has been really growing on me since I've seen it, and if I made a list of favorite films, Stalker would probably be in my top 5. It's devastating.

I watched Eyes Without a Face, Evangelion 1.0 and Evangelion 2.0 on Monday. I am fond of all three, particularly the first.

Stalker has been near the top for me for, I think, over 3 years now. It is more of a feeling than it is a film.

Exactly, I've been talking rouge up on it since I've seen it, and I keep finding myself referring to it as a dream. It just has that unfamiliar, brink of fear, yet beautiful feel to it.

Eyes Without a Face is probably in my top 5 of movies that have fucked me up most. I don't know what it was about that film but it got under my skin and would not leave. I was really repulsed by it, but entranced at the same time. Very few films shock me but that one did.
Me too, one of the more disturbing films I've ever seen.

If I watch a better film than Stalker this year I'll be surprised. It's easily one of my favorite films that I've ever watched. I agree that is almost a feeling more than it is a film. I watched it in early Feb.

I find it amusing that the Criterion DVD for Eyes Without a Face is pink.

So, last week?
I've been watching way too many Westerns lately. I have to, for study. ugh.
Not usually my cup of tea, to be honest. Apart from Dead Man which was typical Jarmusch gold.
I wasn't even aware of their existance until I visited London a couple of years back.
There's only about 8 in the UK now, 2 of which are in Glasgow.

Visitor of a Museum made more of a lasting impression on me than Stalker. If I see a better film than Stalker this year, it will have already happened several times. And it has!

There's one in Edinburgh, too. Rose Street.

Not a movie, but I've been watching Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. Its Sorkin being Sorkin, but with a better cast then The West Wing. Not quite as good as Sports Night, but with the exception of the first couple episodes, its close.

As far as movies go, I've got Its All Gone, Pete Tong from Netflix and intend to watch it momentarily. I don't have terribly high hopes, but it looks to be entertaining enough.

It is up there with Oldboy and City of God as the three best foreign films ever made. That is the widely held consensus, so it can't be wrong.
And it's not that it's too stylish. It's just that it's borderline retarded.

Have you explored any Spaghetti Westerns? I'm not a very big fan of American Westerns but those Italians did some loco stuff in theirs.

Yup, those were done and dusted a long while ago. Don't get me wrong, I do like some American Westerns; I have an affinity for some of Ford's later output, namely The Searchers and The Man Who Shot Holly Valance. Then there's Ray, Peckinpah, Mann etc. Some solid work there, but I'm just burnt out on these tropes for the moment. As soon as I organise my notes into some kind of coherent essay, I'm ready to put all these hats and horses behind me and get back to some real films aka City of God and City of God.
Even without the nudity the sexual tension was pretty palpable.
This is quite true, albeit, there's a deeply unsettling undertone that runs throughout the entire film with the sexuality, the film is certainly what you'd call an ethereal experience - like descending into the dreamtime of the outback (particularily the sequence in the desert where the girl and the younger boy are sleeping and waiting for water to return, what should be nightmarish is utterly intoxicating - powerfully surreal. I feel like the film alternates its mood, between a dream of the outback and a nightmare of the outback. It's one of the few films I'd consider worthy of the M word that I've seen or rewatched in the last year-2 years. And probably the best Australian film made for my money.

I've been on an Ophüls kick. His films go down so easy, yet there's still plenty to chew on.
