Not screen-accurate but close enough for a Halloween party. If I get some time I'll make it a screen-accurate prop.

So many projects, so little time.

Got back 13 rolls of film, the first batch I've done since doing Las Vegas on July 4th. Still gotta scan all my stuff from the three weeks in RUSSIA, but had some from the summer/fall developed as well:

I went to celebrate my birthday. My teachers friends actually took me to a traditional Russian dance/music show inside the Kremlin which was probably my favourite part of the trip. Some drunk guy tried to choke me in the flea market. The cab drivers are the biggest thieves in that entire country. Moscow has a shit ton of police.

I'm lucky my film turned out alright, it was X-Rayed several times. The first time was a massive buzzkill since I thought it was ruined. After that, the smaller annoyances started bugging me a bit more.

I split for Yaroslavl (my only stop in the Golden Ring), but unfortunately it was only for one night and I didn't get to see very much of it. My hotel was named after a movie about Ivan the Terrible.

Thanks, Maiden! This was my first time going overseas, I spent three weeks traveling through the country. I always travel alone, unfortunately Russia's reputation can be a bit off putting to a lot of people but it's definitely a place worth checking out.

Leaving Saint Petersburg is actually when my film got x-rayed by security, which pretty much sucked the life right out of me since I thought all my photos were going to be ruined. Then my Russian SIM card was apparently blocked, which didn't really help my mood. So unfortunately I didn't take any photos of Murmansk (the largest city in the Arctic Circle), there was only a little bit of daylight there anyway because of the polar night.

THEN I TOOK A GREYHOUND BUS TO SIBERIA JUST TO IMPRESS EVIL.

Arrived in Irkutsk (which is nicknamed the Paris of Siberia)... just to be greeted by a cabbie that ripped me off and a hotel that accused me of stealing a towel. I split for Olkhon Island on Lake Baikal for a few days to see the Shaman stuff.

My last stop before heading home: Volgograd.

Used to be Stalingrad, I went there for one night literally just to see The Motherland Calls. But it was rainy, cloudy and grey so I could barely even see the thing. :/

Thank you both!

Next trip is to Taos for Dennis Hopper Day, then hopefully I can find a way to get a camera in Woodstock. AND MAC, I'm hoping to head back down to New Orleans for Mardi Gras in 2020... and hopefully not get lost every time I leave the hotel.

Yesss, fuckin' do it. It's a whole different world during Mardi Gras (although probably one that's much easier to get lost in).

It's Canada's big weekend for music with the Junos happening in my city this year. I used to be more interested in doing music photography but never really got any big opportunities out of it and eventually tried to keep my distance from our local music scene. And unless you're getting a star, it gets a little tiresome coming up with photos that aren't the exact same every time. And people usually want quick turnaround which means digital and bleh but I think I've got a few decent ones over the last six years of doing it.

:D Yeah, it reminded me of a "joke" (I think it's Cuban, or at least from the Caribbean) that gets passed around on e-mail/social media called "White Shit". It follows a guy that's writing a diary where he shares how he's about to move to the States, and how he dreams of seeing typical American things like snow, deer, leaves falling in the fall, etc. but as the diary progresses he becomes more and more agitated towards those same things, and dreams of going back to his country. It's pretty funny and sort of a play on the "grass is always greener on the other side" or how things aren't necessarily as good as you think they are. Anyway, I know that's how most people feel and I really wouldn't want to live in a place where I had to deal with that every year (plus all the dressing up for the cold/snow), but as someone who had not seen snow before, I won't deny it was pretty cool.

I was actually surprised/impressed by it. I obviously had it on the list of things to do because most people mention it, but didn't do any research of what's actually there. It was our first stop after dropping our things at the hotel and I really had little to no expectations. For some reason, one of my friends suggested we start at the top floor and work our way down, and imagine my surprise when only on that top floor we got to see stuff like Van Gogh, Monet, Pollock, Cezanne, Dalí, Magritte, Matisse... it was really, really good.

Also, for such a short trip (Friday to Sunday), I think we really made the most of our time. Went to Fifth Avenue, MoMA, Top of the Rock/Rockefeller, Times Square, Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, 9/11 Museum, Empire State Building, and even a show on Broadway. It was great.

Yep, I'm pushing 50 and I've only seen a real accumulation of snow twice in my life. Once as a toddler on a trip to Canada (no memory of that obviously), and then about 20 years ago in Tennessee in November. Other than that my area gets a flurry every few years and if we're lucky it doesn't melt immediately, and we get enough to make a foot-tall snowman, which will melt within 24 hrs. So for me it still feels magical when it happens, which is how I'd like it to stay.
Although I admit that I'm a little jealous over other people's "snow days". That seems way more relaxing than "hurricane evacuation" days. :P

Old photo of me and one of my wrestling heroes, Terry Funk. Taken at a meet-and-greet the day before Slamboree 1994 in Philadelphia.

This is me at age 22... probably 120 pounds ago.
