I have a question. How long did each of you work on these Top _____ favorite movies lists? Because I can't begin to imagine how long it would take me.
I posted mine to IMDb some years ago and have been editing it ever since. There's a number of titles on there I should rewatch though.

Also, same here Slent. I had depression all throughout the latter half of high school and often had suicidal thoughts. Feel free to shoot me a pm as well if you ever need someone to talk to.

I wouldn't know where to begin with a Top 10 or Top 20 of favorites. Other than my Top 2, I could shoot 10 films I absolutely love, and then remember 10 more that I love just as much and wouldn't know how to rank one above/below the other.

Thanks, man. I also don't want to give the impression that I'm doing worse than I actually am. Saying I'm fine or healthy would be dishonest, but I'm already doing better than I was even 10 months ago. I'll probably won't get rid of these feelings easily, but I'm managing it for now.

In the end, these kind of lists are nothing more than a snapshot: they're an honest of reflection what is specifically of interest to us at the time of composing. This can change on a whim, and when you're taste is as fickle as mine, it's nearly impossible to come up with something that is a 100% accurate.

It's a life's work. If done properly that is. But you can't edit or update it if you never started one so I need to get off the pot. Right off the bat I can name some I watch over and over. Where Eagles Dare comes to mind. That's an offbeat entry but it's definitively a favorite. I think Blue Ruin would be in my Top Ten as well. Anyway, I'll post a T10 if I can finish one. Thanks for the feedback.

What I did when I started my favorites list was list a couple dozen titles I especially loved (even though most were just filler) and expanded upon it as I went along, slowly removing the filler films as I saw new films. It takes time to be fully satisfied with your list (or, at least, it did for me), but I'm glad I kept at it. Also, according to my IMDb list, 2001 is the only film on my list which has been there since day one.

I knew I was gonna dislike it even before I watched it, but my friend picked it. I don't know what was worse, the sexism or the schmaltz. Although I do like the idea of casting Catherine Deneuve as a character who fucks a gorilla.

I don't know Only Yesterday or Cluny Brown but these are all great

And how many Fassbinders have you seen? Because Maria Braun would probably be in the middle of the pack for me

I've only seen two Fassbinders. Maria Braun was my first, I also watched Ali: Fear Eats the Soul recently. I am planning on watching Petra Von Kant somewhere later this month.

Only Yesterday is my favourite Ghibli, gorgeous film. I've seen a bunch of Fassbinders but not for ages, need to get back on that. My favourite is Love Is Colder Than Death.

Darn. I clicked on one of those stupid links and now my computer has a virus.

On the bright side though, I'm going to get a free passport now, apparently.
