These two aren't bad.
I Watch Films, But...
In a word, I think that, far from favoring directors’ formal inventiveness, widescreen, instead, stifles it. It is, I’m more and more persuaded, if not the only, at least the main culprit for the expressive poverty of the image today. - Eric Rohmer

Love the Insignificance cover. I like original art, so that other one is growing on me.

I get what they were going for, and they were actually ALMOST successful, it's just, the black and yellow strips on the bottom are such poor design, without them, the cover is actually rather nicely balanced, insofar as the color doesn't completely overpower the design.

Re: Fake Criterion Covers
I've made some, five of which fit in standard Criterion BD cases. The last four below were re-blogged by Fake Criterion.
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (full cover incomplete): http://i670.photobucket.com/albums/vv69 ... 00edit.jpg
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix: http://img94.imageshack.us/img94/8317/ootpfinalfull.jpg
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince: http://img851.imageshack.us/img851/8139 ... alfull.jpg

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2: http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/8273/dh2finalfull.jpg
These Carlos covers are printed and ready to be put to use when I buy the cases.
Carlos Disc 1: http://img580.imageshack.us/img580/625/ ... inalgr.jpg
Carlos Disc 2: http://img713.imageshack.us/img713/4333 ... inalwh.jpg
In cases from other releases in my BD collection:
Disc 1: http://i670.photobucket.com/albums/vv69 ... review.jpg
Disc 2: http://i670.photobucket.com/albums/vv69 ... review.jpg
I whipped this up about an hour ago:

See me Tumblr for all of them together.

I am working with this one for now, to see how it will turn out as a full cover, front and back with synopsis and everything.

Re: Fake Criterion Covers
I prefer the gray and white one, as its a bit more simplistic. Still cool work, dude.

Thanks. I like that one too, but the second one is growing on me as I add more to it. Here's an extension.MadMan wrote:I prefer the gray and white one, as its a bit more simplistic. Still cool work, dude.

I'm really, really proud of my Potter covers, even more so than what I did for Carlos, of which those were my first attempts. The first one, the red and black one, took about 16 hours total because I kept trying new things. The Potter covers became easier with time.

Re: Fake Criterion Covers
That reminds me that I need to buy George Washington on Criterion at some point. Truly a fantastic movie. Your cover represents the simplistic feel of that movie, BSB.

Back when I rewatched FIncher's filmography during the summer, I made this. It's sort of an homage to the Eclipse series.Derninan wrote:Oh, how I love this thread. More more MOAR

I was looking back through this thread and I saw several posts requesting more covers and activity. If there were occasional challenges in this thread (like covers for shorts collections or documentaries), would people participate in them? Hopefully this would prompt formerly active members of this thread to create something, as well as new-comers.

Re: Fake Criterion Covers
I just came across this forum while wandering around online and thought, why not register for a forum and bump up some super old thread just to post some things I made.
My friend and I have a movie podcast, and a part of that is making fake criterion covers for each of the movies that we watch. I was thinking of sharing them in this thread after each episode, and maybe get some of you guys back into making them. Who knows.
Though it seems the img tag is not available for new users (or I have not found a place to turn it on), so for now you can check out the entire back catalog of The Charlesterion Collection here. And if any of you can help out with turning on img, then I can just post them right in here in the future.
Enjoy!
