The Sketchbook Project and Other Visual Arts Stuff

Post by Philosophe rouge » Wed Sep 22, 2010 4:45 am

This is not really meant to be a thread just for my work. People should share and stuff. Mostly drawing, painting and sculpture but pretty much any art that doesn't fit into the writing/filmmaking/photography thread is welcome... well you can post that stuff here too.

Pretty much, I'm trying to get back into art, especially drawing. Used to be my greatest passion in life but I've barely done any work in the past well... 5 years now. A couple of weeks ago I joined the Sketchbook Project and just got mine in the mail. Pretty much, you are assigned a theme and fill a little moleskin notebook with whatever you'd like fitting that idea. Obviously, this is very much open to the interpretation of the individual and it's not imperative that you take it literally.

I got "Boys and Girls"... so let's see how that works for me. I'll be update quasi-regularly with my stuff. I am really really out of practise though, so I can't say any of this is my best work, though I'm going to try and not give up. So yea...
Everything around me is evaporating. My whole life, my memories, my imagination and its contents, my personality - it's all evaporating. I continuously feel that I was someone else, that I felt something else, that I thought something else. What I'm attending here is a show with another set. And the show I'm attending is myself. I really want to do one of the Sketchbook Projects. Too broke to do one at the moment, but I'll probably do one this winter, it'll be a good hibernation activity.

Neat.

Also, I'm getting an a3 Moleskine and some heavy-duty charcoal material tomorrow, so I'll be contributing. I'm going to look for some of my pastel and gouache paintings and perhaps working out some new gouache work in the future.

Oh, and here's a kinda old digital painting I did with photoshop.

Love the use of negative space in that first offering, rouge.

Birdie... haha... can't believe you posted the Ken & Tammy thing.

I posted some of my old stuff (all I have is old stuff because I don't dabble in the fine arts much anymore...) in another thread but maybe I'll dig up another thing or two. Probably not, though.

Today I bought..

1 Moleskine Portrait sketchbook
3 Moleskine 9 by 13 journals
1 9 by 6 sketchbook
1 Canson 9 by 12 sketchbook.
1 14 by 17 newsprint pad
The moleskines smell fantastic, and I know they'll be fantastic to draw on. Rest is school material. Also bought some new pencils and charcoal sticks.

So yay.

And BSB, I'll be interested to see more ambitious compositions with scratchboards in the future - but you've got the technique down.

The moleskines cost between 20 and 12 dollars.

20 for the bundle of three - 12 for the sketchbook.

I am drawing more stuff, but I am lazy... actualy, most of my best work is scribbles on school notesbooks and coursepacks, but I don't consider that legitimate so i never post any of it.

So, wait...you're saying that the value of the artwork is based on what it's drawn on?

My mind boggles.

Ooh, I hadn't seen that last one before... and actually the second-to-last one doesn't look familiar, either. Love 'em both! The quintuple-portrait has a tattooish quality to it, in that it's a compilation of separate images melded together by something that borders on the abstract.

Thanks Mod.

Yeah, abstract qualities have been slowly becoming more and more a part of my work. That piece is about two years old now, but it is an important place for me.
