Four Square: A thread you may or may not like!

Post by Hank » Wed Jan 05, 2011 2:34 am

One year.
About a year.
Give or take a couple months.
498 posts. Exactly.
Zero threads.
.....Scratch that. One thread.
This thread.
Image
Welcome.

Four Square: A game in which the players must score points based on what is inside the squares of the playing field.

I don't post much... That much should be clear. So, this thread is not just a contest but it also serves the purpose of getting to know a little bit about me and my tastes. How you ask? Well, aren't you studious. Because it will focus on the things I enjoy: films, comics, art and my artistic creations. Not only do I enjoy these things... everything you see here-- I own. My personal tastes are certainly present.

Each round will be worth 3 points. Wait. I thought this was four square? It is.
Upper left corner: Comics. Panels from comics that are part of my collection. Guess the title. That easy.
Upper right corner: Films. Crops from screencaps I've taken from movies I own. These aren't necessarily my favorite films (because I don't think I could ever begin to rank movies I enjoy... I admire those who can) but they are in my collection. Guess the title of the film shown. That easy.
Lower left corner : Art. Sections of pieces of art I own. Well, I own reproductions. Not originals. I wish they were originals. They aren't. Again, guess the title: You win.
Lower right corner: My art. For your amusement... no points to be earned here. This is just part of getting to know me and my tendencies.

There will be Eleven rounds. Why eleven? It's an important number to me. I was married on 11/11 several years ago. Look there... you just learned something about me.
Image

All answers are to be sent to me via PM.

I will accept answers for any round at anytime. I have been known to mail out prizes to my contest winners. Ask Gort or traboule. Don't ask Trip because he turned me down. Ruined my shot to be an international artist. :D

I'm nervous to click *submit*

I am completely clueless on your first three panels. :?

I like this idea. I think I know two of the panels from this round.

Some are saying both. I haven't had anyone say the title and director though. Strange, methinks.

Edit: but yeah, I'm mainly looking for the title.

Well, so far, I think I got both movies and both paintings, but I don't know anything about comics. Unfortunately, I also barely know anything about paintings, so my luck may run out soon.

Corroboration. Hank's first trivia contest at the RT forum yielded me this award:
'sTDTESS-art.jpg

Sadly, I haven't had the funds to get it properly framed, so it is not on my wall as I wish it were, but rolled up in the mailing tube that carried it to me. At least it's protected. Seen above, being held down by the relevant DVD, and my entire Blu collection. Yes, I watched the 2008 retelling of the story...terribly inferior. I bought the Blu because the third disc contains the original '51 version in HD!

The artwork is tormented at the bottom by the flash attachment. The parts that seem to be white streaks are actually quite as black as the surrounding field.

I picked up comic number three simply because of its size. I was pleasantly surprised with it. Nice 'little' book, that.

That's actually a good clue. I think the artist stopped by my local comic shop and *omits anecdote that would further hint at the answer*. I still can't think of the name/title for the life of me, though.

I did too, actually. I was engrossed in it when I first picked it up. A quick read.

I've read it a couple times, and have developed an appreciation for it's rhythms.

Yeah, you can. I didn't want to have too many deadlines because of my infrequent posting tendencies. I think that I might have a "break" after the 5th round to reveal the answers for the first 5 rounds... At that point you would not be able to respond to the first 5 rounds. You'd get a 100%.

It might be considered unfair that way.

Which is why it'll be against the rules.

I'll consider posting still images of my art with the answers. Although, for reference... my pieces have been mainly square of late. Some strange fixation on squares recently. Hm.

Anyway, one of the three shots that flashes is actually the entire piece.

Perhaps an unconscious realization that you yourself are a square :P . Though your taste in art seems to disagree with that analysis.

I also just realized how nicely the Round 2 movie and painting go together. Onward and upwards and etc...

That drawing of my teeth is the only black and white piece that I'm sharing with you as part of the game. Not that I don't like working in black and white... but I've been much more motivated by paint during the last year.

I started a painting today that wasn't a square canvas. I think it is a composition that will satisfy my senses, but I don't see it as an end to my square phase.
