Haha. It wasn't very subtle. :)

EDIT: Oops, new page. Sorry it's so incomprehensible.

It was meant more in a "hey this is cool, look at this" way, and this seemed like the appropriate thread.

A bit more autobiographical than what I'm used to, but it seemed fitting.

I'll say! That was some beautiful writing. The movie's good, too.

One of these days a mainstream, commercial Argentine film will be really awesome and worth seeing. Wild Tales came close, but not quite. The Clan misses by a wider margin. A noticeable step down from the likes of Lion's Den for Trapero. But, hey, this new movie got him a Silver Lion at Venice. Because reasons.

Anyways, my write-up for The House Next Door: http://www.slantmagazine.com/house/arti ... s-the-clan

The Beginner's Guide. Better than The Stanley Parable. Also, 90 minutes long. In this age of bloated games, that's an advantage.

Guess I should post this here: http://www.slantmagazine.com/house/arti ... o-and-more

Lengthy piece on the Mar del Plata International Film Festival.

Condensed version: watch Homeland; also watch Balikbayan #1, though it's more uneven; watch El cielo del centauro, but stick to Invasión; watch Daemonium, but don't expect greatness (or at least catch some footage on YouTube, where it was first shown as a web series, and keep in mind it has no budget); also, I wasn't able to write about them, because they had already been covered in The House Next Door, but hot damn the new Weerasethakul, Hou, and Akerman movies are awesome.

But Homeland, watch Homeland. Not the TV series, by the way. I don't know anything about that.

I'll keep that in mind in case some of that shows up at the Rotterdam fest.
