Inspired By...

Post by Hank » Sun May 01, 2011 12:25 pm

This is my second corrierino thread.
This was my first.
I hope my sophomoric effort isn't looked at as "sophomoric".
Image
Welcome.
Inspired. Accurate or apt but based on intuition rather than knowledge or logical deduction. To fill with an animating, quickening, or exalting influence

I want to be inspired. By you and the films you've come to enjoy. I'm not the corrierino's largest contributor... that we know for sure. But I come here because I admire most of you and your taste in film. This is a thread where you recommend me a film and I watch it. Afterward, I will write a review and post it.

Wait.
That isn't my style.
Art is.

YES.

Rules for you.

-Post ONE film. (This number may be altered once I see how many recommendations I get)
-I'd prefer if it were on Netflix. Instant Watch would also be nice, but not required.

Rules for me.
-I watch. Even if I've seen it before.
-I create. I've been painting a lot the past year, so I think I'm going to venture away from it for this. Charcoal. Ink. Graphite. Washes. But, perhaps your choice will inspire me differently.
-I must finish the piece within the film's run time. Not on the first viewing, mind you. But if a film is 95 minutes... then I only get 95 minutes to produce my "review". This will keep me from spending days on it and (hopefully) keep this thread moving.
-My creation may or may not be literal. This is exciting for me because I have no idea what is going to happen. I don’t know what you are going to recommend… and I don’t know what emotions the film will stir in me. Maybe the main character... perhaps a piece of cinematography... possibly the film's overall theme... or even it's rhythm will be my inspiration.

How will my hand react to your choice? We won’t know unless we try

Do not make it explicitly literal. I like this thread.

I doubt that they will be very literal, but I'm not going to rule out that they could be.

1981 please. I don't have the flix on my net, so I can't check if this is readily available to you or not. I'd suggest it's worth going a little out of your way to view if it's not available, for whatever that suggestion is worth. Probably nothing.

Performance, I choose you.
The counter-earth rigged to such sonic stroboscopics that we, however temporarily, become the irruption into present time of the screams of the bones of history, tearing into the mind of the listener, unambiguously determining a new stance toward reality, a new ground outside of official harmony, from which to act. Or put it another way, next time some jazz fan tells you that late Coltrane is unlistenable, or something, punch em in the face. Seven times. -Sean Bonney

That's the plan. I'm actually an art teacher, and last summer I completed 83 paintings on my own motivation... this year I was looking for something a little bit extra to motivate me. I don't have much doubt that I'll get all of these done (as long as I can find them)

And thanks for the compliment.
