I'd be up for that! Thanks, man; things were actually really slow at my store last Saturday, but that might just be because the initial wave of panic-buying ran its course earlier, and there haven't been any cases reported originating in this county (yet); I'd hate to see what things would be like if that happened. The good news is, it's sort of an "essential" business, so it's less likely to get shut down (and costing me my job in the process), but that also means that I have to keep showing up for work, pretending everything's normal while I live in dread of catching it from one of the dozens of people I come into close proximity every day, and end up spreading it to my family, so it's a pretty big Catch-22 for me : /
Yeah retail is crazy right now. I am more worried about giving someone I love coronavirus than I am of catching it if that makes sense. Also I have never answered so many questions about toilet paper in my life.

I'm hoping the worst that comes of this (for me and my circle of friends and family) is a lot of boredom for the next few months. blessed boredom.

also, what is the Film Society?
Film Society was when we would get together and watch a movie via group chat. Usually it would be a craptastic type flick, one you could make good jokes about. Firebender started it if I recall correctly-it was an RT thing.

Discord and the film society sounds like fun, also ain't there means of converting Netflix into group chat? Lots of wonderful trash there

Hey guys, hope you're all well. If we do film society, I nominate Amityville 6: It's About Time.

If we're going Amityville, Part 4: The Evil Escapes is the clear star for Film Society treatment. It has an evil floor lamp, that ridiculous chainsaw scene, Patty Duke and perhaps the most insane final shot in cinema history.

That does sound good. For it's part, six has very minimal connection to the rest of the films, an evil clock, Stephen Macht and just about the best final line ever. I saw it in a marathon and my theater burst into laughter.

statistically I am unlikely to be affected by the covid virus (health-wise). all of the high-risk people in my life are taking it seriously and are well taken care of.

it is still incredibly bleak to hear 100k-200k dead as a best-case scenario and the US is not far off from a 1k-a-day death rate (set to peak at 3k). hope everyone is preparing themselves.

I stocked up on grain alcohol a couple months back, and now it's selling for $50 a liter on Drizly because people are using it to make homemade hand sanitizer. So who's the drunken idiot now?

What are you using your grain alcohol for? Punches, infusions? We just use vodka for our infusions. I have some 151 dark rum, but that actually has you know ... flavor.

Limoncello is my go-to. The benefit with grain alcohol over vodka is that the alcohol level is high enough that you can make genuine liqueurs because you can dilute it much more with water and sugar. There's also a moonshine recipe that's supposed to taste like an Orange Dreamsicle that I want to try out. But I also have aloe plants, so I can make hand sanitizer if things get desperate. So far, my new apartment building still has been refilling the Purell station in the lobby, but who knows how long that lasts.

Yeah Trump's conferences are a mixture of stupidity and more stupidity with pathetic ego boosts. The Dems want mush brained Biden to run against him. The US is beyond fucked, I want to leave.

Biden still has to pick his VP, and I think that's going to be a crucial decision this time, given how enfeebled Biden has looked so far. We're going to need to see something like a repeat of the Bush-Cheney alliance, where the gaffe-spewing glad-hander gets the job of president in title but a shrewd executive actually wields power from the No. 2 position. Only I think this arrangement would need to be more transparent to reassure voters. Also, less evil.

Yeah, it's like central casting mook accent, he leans into it in certain roles.

Well a couple weeks ago the president told people not to take it seriously and to go out and hug each other. That was two weeks ago though.

Our numbers are pretty low but it's probably a big lie.

Also, it's still fucking snowing here, I have to drive 3 hours to my job and try to find a motel to stay in and somewhere to eat, and we are putting our old girl cat down tomorrow. I also know that if I just stayed home for like 2 months worried about how I'm going to pay the Bill's and watching society collapse onthe news that wouldn't be good for me either, but jeez.

Our politicians here stateside are obviously a fucking disorganized stew of competence, incompetence and whatever degree of pants-shitting idiocy you can ascribe to the Trump administration. I'm in the ugly position of having to say Andrew Cuomo is doing a good job here, even though he's a piece of shit. At least Bill de Blasio is still a royal fuck-up. I'm very glad I moved from Brooklyn back to Manhattan in November, because the outer boroughs are looking like the true hot zones right now.

And yeah, regarding "that was going to happen anyways," I think a lot of people freaking out about the stock market crash don't realize how precarious the whole global economic situation was before this. I'm not saying coronavirus is the hair on the camel's back following the market bloat on Trump's tax breaks combined with the trade war with China and the Russia-Saudi oil feud, but this whole economy could have been knocked over with a stiff breeze. Recession was inevitable, and the fact that the impetus for the economic downturn is so dire might actually result in a stimulus that corrects for an effort that was frankly underfunded in 2008-09. This is ghoulish, but I'd like to see the Tea Party protests that'll be attempted in the face of literal body bags being carted out of hospitals this time around. The expense has already outpaced 2008-09 on the first go-around, but the big problem at the moment is that Trump & Co. will misdirect the funds, not knowing what the fuck they're doing and all.

Right now, 20,000 has been the psychological barrier on the DJIA. Prepare for 15,000. But if you lived through the 7,000 valley in 2009, these aren't unprecedented times.

Yeah, I lost interest with that whole conversation as I don't think we're on the same page about the basic terminology of what constitutes a plot hole or story logic. We're talking past each other, and I'd rather not continue. Probably should have defined our terms at the outset, but it's too late for that.

His VP choice will be something awful.
Are you basing that on the assumption that Biden himself will be making the choice or that the DNC will be making the choice? Because I can practically guarantee you the latter scenario will be the reality. And while the party is definitely in disarray at the moment, I think that's better than the situation in 2016, when it was very apparent that the DNC was in the bag for Hillary. Back then, Bernie came within a hair's breadth of taking the nomination because he was the anti-Hillary Democrat and she was the most hated politician in America. And even then, Trump barely won. This time around, Bernie didn't have such an easy foil and he hit the 30% wall of support within the Democratic electorate that he was always projected at. Because the DNC is in flux right now, I can't say who gets picked for VP. But I'm seeing a lot of evidence Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer either is in the final consideration or is being pushed in that direction. She aligns very closely with Biden in politics but is much younger and more articulate. Now that the DNC convention has been pushed back to August, that allows for the July release of the report on the Flint water crisis to come out and determine whether there's anything damning about her tenure to report on. Depending on how that works out, she's got a pretty good record of criticizing Trump, and her history as a sexual assault survivor would be sure to reignite the debate about Trump's history without the baggage that Hillary carried thanks to Bill.
