yes to everything wiggy said. loved the music choices, the transitions, the slow pans during the boat ride, the shot of the bar with the shallow focus, the brief shot of that just married couple <3 oh the hobo in the red coat is alright too i guess.

All of the above, plus the first part reminded me of some of Varda's shorts on places/locations. Love the shot gliding across the bar the most. Also those little shots of people looking over their shoulder, in this one and the last one.

Fantastic work, Fisty. So impressed by your distinct artistic eye on a daily basis, including everything that winds up being cut. Not a single critique from me - I couldn't be more proud of you <3. They just keep getting better :).

Good editing and framing decisions, thought the music was a bit overbearing in parts.

That was the extent of my take away from it.

The Frank? I'm excited for when I'm able to afford to record real location audio. And when I can make a real film.

Which is to say your face is overbearing in parts.

Yeah, the Frank. It'll be nice when you can observe the ambiance of the places you're shooting, I think.

Every single shot was beautifully composed, Fist, although the editor in me thinks you should be a lot more merciless on the cutting room floor. The music selections were perfect.

Good stuff, Fist

Are you interested more in doing narrative shorts/features or documentaries, going forward? Your style would probably fit either one.

Thanks a lot. If these were anything more than shot-from-the-hip walk-around type pieces, whatever you want to call them, I probably would be more discerning too. I'm really balancing what works as a piece unto itself and just getting as much of the footage in as possible since these are more or less journals of our time here as well so it's nice to see as much of it as I can. So pure selfishness really!

I hardly watch or have much interest in documentaries, I'm kind of ashamed to say. These certainly fit the bill, since as I said almost all my footage comes from just walking around the city and documenting where we go. I'm very interested in putting together some narrative stuff as some point, with most studio-oriented camera set ups, lighting, etc, and likely a more thought-out or acute formal strategy to go with it.

So here's a music video my roommates and I made for a contest on Genero.tv. It's the first thing I've directed for Lobsterdance Productions since relocating to Atlanta last year. Had the opportunity to finally work with a long time friend, Patrick Lewis, who makes Henson-y puppets and creatures, and take his creation out for a stroll through downtown Atlanta. Sadly, it did not make the finalists in the contest, but it was a great deal of fun.

You just made me want FilmConvert. I've always used Magic Bullet, but the idea of replicating actual film grading sounds pretty nice to me.

Also, good video

Thanks. Filmconvert adds a degree of grading based on the particular film stock you select so it's a good idea to throw colorista or something on it as well for finer grading. I can't go back to life before fc though.

Helping some friends out with a horror short. Kind of a disorganized production but I'm having bundles of fun playing with lighting in the old psych ward we're shooting in. With the exception of one small battery powered LED, every light source has been a practical.

The first two days of principle photography for Lobsterdance's newest short film, ALIZARIN, have been soundly vanquished! Feeling pretty good right now, given that the script has made me a nervous wreck off and on throughout the past three months. It's the first straight-up drama I've ever directed, guys! No miniature effects, giant monsters, or absurdist comedy! BUT DEM STILLS THO.

Birdie's my cinematographer for this, as is our custom.

hi guys. finished up my first ever short film, an arty thing called MOVING. i'm uncomfortable showing this to too many people, so i figure this community's small enough...

pw: austen2 [vimeo]89486335[/vimeo]

not that i'm too upset about the film, i actually like it quite a bit, but the dialogue is bad, the sound is spotty, etc... still, weird mixture of pride & shame here, with enough weight to the former that i can't wait to try again. there are many (many!) problems, but there are moments i cherish.

a) real?
b) fabric?
c) CGI?
d) something I didn't guess?

It'll be real water. The scaling probably won't be perfect but I knew that going in so I'm designing everything to be intentionally stylized.
