It's not a bad assumption. A woman wearing leggings should not be news. Neither should a man wearing leggings, I suppose, but "meggings," as they're called, are less common, so I could at least understand the uproar if that had been the case. It wasn't, though.

On my end, assuming a male Prez got attention for wearing something like leggings is the funnier mental image, as well.

Is president by definition a gender neutral term?

I've never actually considered that.

Fifteen (jesus, really?) years ago when I worked for a short time at McDonalds, I told an old woman that the fries were pre salted when they were delivered to the store, because fucking hell was it a production to make unsalted fries. And now, most likely that woman is dead.

Well, I'm thinking part of is that (1) leggings are trendy and presidents aren't know for dressing/being hip, chic, or cool and (2) tight pants are sexy and there's a taboo against presidents being sexy.

Now, indubitably, there's a sexist double standard, because there's not any attire that's particularly off limits for male presidential figures, or if there is, it's in any case a much less controversial topic than it is for a woman (shirtless Obama/Putin in bathing suits, etc).

These are probably the reasons, yeah. And all this is exacerbated when the current media war between the president and certain journalistic outlets means that anything she does is worthy of hyperbolic criticism.

Well said. That's why I think it works better as a film, and the one and a half volumes of the comic I read are a bit flat in comparison, because books are read at a subjective pace, there's slightly more "backstory", and Wright's film is zip-fast. And thus, the comedy seems more suited, or at least it's given more energy, with the controlled pace of the film. The example you gave with the roommate's text and the sister is a good one; it's far clearer and funnier and contained in the film. Not that the comic is restricted from being able to do this sort of thing, which is far more difficult to do in written books (the simultaneous text joke wouldn't work anywhere near as well in just words), but a film's rhythm is so much more perfect for delivering a joke precisely how the teller wants to. I think we can agree that this is about as great as film adaptations get, even though we'd prefer a more unique-to-the-filmmaker project in general.
I forgot to say that I agree with this post.

Also, I think Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is genius now.

Also, I found this post searching the forums for Thrilbs.

Also, I was talking about Margaret on the page I found the Thrilbs on before the film was released, and now I found it after writing about it. Coincidence? No, actually, it was the Thrilbs. It's always the Thrilbs.

I have noticed that Corrie has evolved a lot of the years. I didn't post that much back in the early days partly because of all the social threads. Not hating, just never was my thing, even on RT. Now it's like the best place on the internet for film discussion and info
