It's good and I liked it better than La France. It's even more Bressonian in terms of framing and that mannered dialogue delivery etc. from what I can remember.. and not so surprisingly reminiscent of Eugene Green as well. It's fun.

The girls who play the nieces detract my experience of the film a tad but Lahti is great. I used to love the film, like, top-100-love. Doesn't get me anymore like that, though.

Rewatched it. Contrary to what I remembered, the one who plays Lucille is pretty good. I still don't like the one who plays Ruth. There are flat line readings that work but hers doesn't for me :(

There's a goofy one in Four Adventures of Reinette and Mirabelle. It's within the first 30 minutes, I think. Damn, can't remember if they were dancing in silence or to music. Another Rohmer with dancing is Full Moon in Paris. The only good clip that I came upon is far too short (the sequence is longer; there's a longer one on YT but it's terrible looking): link.

Easily my favorite vignette of the whole film. :)
I Watch Films, But...
In a word, I think that, far from favoring directors’ formal inventiveness, widescreen, instead, stifles it. It is, I’m more and more persuaded, if not the only, at least the main culprit for the expressive poverty of the image today. - Eric Rohmer

This is more a musical moment than a dance scene but whatevs. Re-watching the movie last night, I kept replaying it so. Ana Moreira

I love the final sequence of Not Fade Away. It's best to experience it in the context of the film, but if that doesn't matter to you (sad to say that I think the film is decent at best), then you can see a part of it here:
