I was planning on making this a birthday gift to myself (I'm sentimental), so I have about 6 weeks before I can tell you.

I watched Notorious again a year or so ago. I have to say there are very few of Hitch's films that may be better.

Well I just spent $190 on Arrow releases, and I haven't even started on the Criterions yet.

(btw the 10% off FALL10 promo that's going for the next few days doesn't work on the Criterion sale but it does work on the Arrow stuff)

I should be getting that Bergman from the library in the next few days. Loved Le Corbeau, Wages, and Diabolique, so I'm curious about that one. Loved Fassbinder, but never got around to BAP.

Jan, was the extended Tree of Life any good?

Fuck yes! I never got Filmstruck since my roommate had it, but since he moved out I'm gonna commit to this.

Also, my B&N haul:

Arrow - Spotlight on a Murderer, Makhmalbaf's Poetic Trilogy, the Black Cat box set, the Yoshida set, and the Female Prisoner: Scorpion set

Criterion - Lone Wolf and Cub, The Lodger, Memories of Underdevelopment

It's been a busier than expected week, and this is sitting at the top of my eagerly awaited marquee, along with Other Side of the Wind and You Were Never Really Here, and now Ballad of Buster Scruggs. Hopefully, my weekend will be uneventful enough to allow me to enjoy all of these.

I intend to post about The Other Side of the Wind sometime soon, once I organize my thoughts a bit more. It's baffling to me that no one has said anything about it on the forum yet (as far as I've noticed).

Any thoughts on the Criterion Channel so far?

I'm finding that browsing isn't the easiest. I get that the curated nature of it is the point, but having to know which category a particular film is in (that week) isn't ideal. I mean, there's always the search function but typing titles with my remote is tedious, so I'd prefer to just surf sometimes.

Other than that, no complaints. I haven't even watched a film yet, but I'm enjoying the Adventures in Moviegoing series.

I watched Detour on CC the other night and it made me happy just to know I'd have access to movies like this anytime I want.

I have so little free time these days but the point is I could watch them.

Of course it does. That's why I asked after all.

The Ozu is one I could start with. I'm trying to catch up on more of his filmography anyways. A few of the Kiarostami films look interesting. Biopics are usually hit or miss with me, but I could still keep an eye out for that one.

I want to say that An Angel at My Table is the sort of biopic that would appeal to those that don't usually like biopics (assuming they mean the kind that usually pop up around awards season) buuuuuuut you won't know unless you watch it.

if you like introverts then An Angel at My Table is the biopic for you
