I'm glad that I bought Last Year At Marienbad when I had the chance.

Screw being poor, I bought Repo Man (1984) today. Such an awesome movie. I plan on at least buying Badlands when I get paid on Friday, and maybe Things To Come just because Orson Welles wrote it. THE FUTURE.....according to 1936.

Got The Music Room, Lonesome, and the Downey Sr. eclipse set. Plus I had two B&N gift cards so I only spent about $30 of my own money on them.

I don't buy movies anymore, so this is kind of a strange thing for me. I hope these Blus prove to be worthy investments. It'd be different if I had a decent income, but I don't, and I rarely rewatch films, so it kind of feels like a waste of money. Maybe not, though. With the extras and the full, 1080p picture, they should be worthwhile for me.

I usually only buy movies that are on sale or which can't be found on DVD in the US. I only use Karagarga and similar sites if I need a film immediately, or if it just isn't available by any other means.

Ikiru
Night of the Hunter
Spirit of the Beehive

Stocking up for next month when I'm off work for carpal tunnel/elbow surgery. Paid sick leave, of course. It pays to be in unions, kids. 8-)

Franju's superbly eerie photography should look just fantastic in HD - I wonder if they did anything new to Blood of the Beasts for the blu-ray. Getting a restoration of Eyes and that would be just wonderful.

what are the Five Films? Love Streams?

edit
Shadows, Faces, A Woman Under the Influence, The Killing of a Chinese Bookie, and Opening Night in stunning new transfers
there'll never be anything stunning to me about Shadows, Faces, or the first hour of Woman Under

boo this collection

but the first hour of Woman Under has that awesomely uncomfortable dinner scene with Falk bringing his co-workers home for dinner w/ him and Mabel

Not a fan of Shadows though.

Woman Under is a perfect film. Faces is irritating and i haven't warmed to it. Shadows is great but it's a different greatness from his others.

there's no excuse for Love Streams not having been released yet.

I'm happy about the La Notte and completing the trilogy on Crit, but what the hell is with the cover?

Same. I just love cinema and I seek to collect those rare masterpieces and all their bonus goodies when I can. KG, Netflix, Hulu, mubi, and whatever are just ways of screening movies. I don't rewatch movies a LOT but I certainly rewatch favorite ones, even if, sometimes, to only better understand them.

You may not have noticed, but Criterion has a competition around the office where they compete to see who can make the best looking cover in 5 minutes, and the winner gets to be the official Criterion cover which will be adored around the internet, and they all laugh at how easily the world denizens are by their photochop hackjobs.

This is all inside knowledge, mind you, so don't let it get around. I used to work there and none of mine got accepted. They said, "Purple just isn't chic enough for Criterion. You should expand your color palette." We had words. We parted ways. Things happen. I've moved on. Clearly, they have not. No purple in any of those covers.

That was back before my time.

When they thought that they had to try.

Paris has some great features. Pierre has multiple films I haven't seen (and the three I have seen are worth every one of the $30 the set costs). Dilemmas!

I've only seen Paris, Texas, which is a fantastic movie so I can't really comment beyond that.

Finally I picked up my copy of Badlands, which I had to order online since it wasn't available in the store. I can't wait to watch it again.

Went totally bonkers and ordered 4 Criterions.

Qatsi trilogy
Ivan's Childhood
The 400 Blows
Saló

Then after thinking about ordering a couple Jodorowsky Criterions from B&N (originally thought Criterion had them, but they don't), noticed that the Blu-rays were $5 cheaper at Amazon, so ordered all 3 of the Jordo's I wanted.

There went my reimbursement check for office supplies I bought for work. Oh well!
