The Hurt Locker or Platoon?

Post by Wolf of the Winter » Mon Mar 08, 2010 5:56 am

Which one of those two Academy-Award war films is the best?

Note: Israfel wanted a battle.

I like Platoon.
It was better the first time I saw it though...
I still need to watch THL. Maybe next week.

In all honesty, I choose The Hurt Locker, just because I've hated everything Stone's had a hand in; I can't stand his ability to ruin a film in the blink of an eye.

Platoon, hands down.

Hurt Locker is a good film though.

The Hurt Locker by quite a bit. I like my war flicks more even toned than Stone likes to deliver them.

Neither would make a top ten war films list for me but I would probably take Platoon.

why were All Quiet on the Western Front, Wings, Mutiny on the Bounty, The Bridge on River Kwai, Lawrence of Arabia, Patton, The Deer Hunter, Dances With Wolves and Braveheart not included? those are just the ones that are explicitly about war. there are several more that took place during wars.

The Hurt Locker's better , but Platton is fairly close. They're both two fantastic war movies though.

In a word, I think that, far from favoring directors’ formal inventiveness, widescreen, instead, stifles it. It is, I’m more and more persuaded, if not the only, at least the main culprit for the expressive poverty of the image today. - Eric Rohmer

At least in my experience, people have been comparing The Hurt Locker more with Platoon than any of those movies.

This is the first time I've seen the two films mentioned together in the same breath.
