Post by Oxnard Montalvo » Fri Sep 01, 2017 9:31 pm

Corrie Class Trip is a project where we rotate the selection of a title for group watches on an appointed day/date to then discuss [previous iterations linked below]. We welcome all to participate and share their thoughts and feelings! The second viewing for Round 3 is scheduled for Saturday September 9th. Please post about the film itself and your experience with it in this thread, and any off-topic posts about the series itself in the Class Trip Discussion Thread.

Thanks and enjoy!!!

xoxo,
your classmates

Time and Winds AKA Beş Vakit (Reha Erdem, 2006)
Three youngsters lead difficult lives in a poor, rural mountain village in northern Turkey. Omer (Ozkan Ozen) hates his father, the village Imam, and imagines different ways to kill him. His friend Yakup (Ali Bey Kayali) has a secret infatuation with his teacher. Yildiz (Elit Iscan) must handle the housework handed out by her severe mother. Their tough existence is tempered by the wonder and excitement of youth, as their daily lives are divided into five sections, separated by prayer sessions.

I don't really remember much about that one, but I know I liked it. Good choice.

Reha Erdem is a fantastic filmmaker. Check out What's A Human Anyway. Hilarious dark comedy.

alrighty. so I had said a few days ago not to download the movie from the link I posted as I had gotten some malware from it. I was not able to get another source but since it doesn't seem like anyone else was going to go on this class trip, I guess it is kind of a moot point.

anyway, I was able to get it from Netflix and found it well-done. elegiac without being too grim but not quite sentimental either. I'll always appreciate any movie that acknowledges how malicious teenagers can be when they are unable to find constructive means to process their angst (at least that's my memory of myself at that age).
those inserts of the children on the ground, were they the 'death' of childhood? which would be pretty on-the-nose if true but since they could just very well be sleeping or passed out i.e. no visible sign of violence, there's a bit more ambiguity. like the girl who collapses after accidentally harming her infant sibling, maybe it's just an exhaustion from the crushing weight of the world. or whatever, I know this isn't some secret code I gotta break.

I'm so sorry I haven't been around for this one. I'll watch it over the next week. Have had some massive personal paradigm shifts so been completely out of it for the last month and a half. But will get this watched and commented on and still keen to keep this project going in the future now that I have my shit relatively together!

I guess we could. my only limitation is not knowing how to distribute movies to all of y'all. (evidently if I put them on my Google account and other people downloald it can get shut down)

buuuuut if you have one, go for it.
