Rumpled4Skin search and rescue operation

Post by Captain Terror » Tue Mar 13, 2018 11:43 pm

I've been contacted by Mr. Rumpled, who tells me he cannot register here as the forum is locked. Anyone have any ideas about how we can get him on this boat?

What did Rumpled do to get banned from Corrie?

I logged myself out to test it and he appears to be correct, I don't see a "register" button anywhere.

I PM'd someone with the title of "administrator" but later realized that person rarely posts here so thought I'd try this method instead.

Did they lock the forum during our recent exodus? To contain the fallout?

I don't know why. I just assumed that Rump had sent some fap pics to the wrong moderator.

Hell, I thought that's how people became moderators here.

It wasn't because of the recent wave of RTefugees (I am going to make this a thing, dammit) crashing upon our digital shore, but because a barrage of Russian or whatever spammers followed suit and started making the forum unreadable, just like they've done before. Anyway, I messaged a Corrie mod on Facebook about it, so hopefully, Rumpled will be allowed to join the rest of us here in the light very, very soon.

Oh yeah, and speaking of getting RT-spin-offs to reopen for registration, I recently got the administrator at Match Cut to reopen that forum (which has some former RT'ers/current Corrie-ers posting there), so go get it while the gettin's good!

I also know some RTfugees that might want to migrate. An offshoot forum we developed is breathing its last breaths and we’re down to maybe ten members tops (some of whom lurk, no less). I’ll need to take a roll call to see who’d want to join but when I do I’d like to appeal to the mods to let them in too.

Also this site has become my new RT in that I only pop in once in a while, mostly to update some crappy thread of mine. Twitter takes up my attention these days.

I don't think most of them would bother to come here. Probably 90% of them were OT people. I only popped in their once in a blue moon if RT went down to see what was going on.

Actually, it isn’t. I’m aware of their existence but have no idea how to access them.

The forum I’m referring to is called Movie Watchers Oasis, which some of the DVD Vine forum users formed in 2015 after the moderation crackdown on RT. Our membership has slowly depleted, so I suggested this board to the ones remaining if they were curious. I still need to get a head count from whoever would be migrating, which might take a bit due to activity there running to a trickle. Of course, my fellow members may try to persevere.

Such a wonderful film.

What's funny about the OTers is that most of them, myself included, left GD to go to OT. I came back to GD in the end, but only after burning some bridges. Its a long, boring story, and now I see you are all asleep. Good.

We really need to pick a new moderator here, one who actually checks this place out at least once a day, if it's going to take this long for one of them to respond... how about Genie? He has plenty of experience at it, and it's not like he's busy doing that since the apparent death of the RT forums, heh.

What was this shit about? Someone decided that they could find profit by deluging a message board with 450 members (about one or two dozen that could be called "active") with Russian language spam? I don't buy any of that for a second. Sure, maybe it was "something" we brought with us from the old board, but even there, as steady as the spammers could be in certain seasons, I don't remember anything like the concentrated barrage (hundreds of posts in less than a week) that occurred here. It's certainly out of proportion with the traffic. I was half assuming it was a known RT troll who was copy/pasting google-translated nonsense with multiple accounts. I'm pretty sure there were already ongoing posts in the Awareness thread about the proliferation of bots. Seems odd that someone would consider that an invitation for business.

Nope. I'm still blaming Taylor Swifticka.

I think the function to sign up as a new member is temporarily disabled because of the Russian bots.

Yes, it seems likely that the lucrative Corrie demo-market has got spammers in a collective drool, waiting for months just for the juicy opportunity to tap into our gullible clicks.

Some of these may very well have been pre-programmed to commence the spam as soon as the block was lifted. But given the scant size of the board and the unlikely prospect that any of the active users would be so stupid as to fall for this phishing, I'd say that it really looks more like a harassament campaign. From whom, I have no idea.

Does this mean he's not going to send me a Latvian driver's license and a Betty White sex tape?

I am not responsible for interior damage to the vehicle.

Raises eyebrows though, doesn't it? I mean, even if the considerable traffic at RT didn't nearly reflect onto the board, it makes sense for spammers to at least risk the effort on that platform. Corrie? What are they going get here? Kratom for ski petrol? Has anyone at Corrie ever even posted in Russian? Just seems spiteful after a while.
