The Haunted House and
The Mad Doctor are, in my opinion, two of the best examples of American animation. I absolutely cannot get enough of those two.
"Pla-ay... PLA-AY!"
Yeah, I was definitely not a Disney kid growing up. In fact, as far as I know I'd never seen
Trick or Treat until I found it for the first version of this thread. But as an adult I've come to realize that they were really firing on all cylinders during the 30s/40s. That's hardly news to anybody, it's just that I hadn't been paying attention for most of my life. In terms of artwork and animation their shorts from that era look every bit as great as their features.
As a matter of personal preference I'll always favor the Warner Bros humor and the Fleischers' weirdness, but it's not hard to see why Disney was #1.
EDIT: What I should've said is that, with the exception of my Lonesome Ghosts viewer, I hadn't seen
any of these Disney shorts until recently. I saw all the movies like every American kid, but the shorts were something I didn't watch often. And I'm not even sure I had access to them, come to think of it.
