Well, I'm glad it does, cause I have a few nits to pick with the writers! I mean, Zoe is a "zombie", but can see and walk through things? Where does that come from?
I actually looked up a promo yesterday, and when the Frankenstein Monster dabbed I figured I'd seen all I needed to see. :D

Yeah, I was definitely not a Disney kid growing up. In fact, as far as I know I'd never seen Trick or Treat until I found it for the first version of this thread. But as an adult I've come to realize that they were really firing on all cylinders during the 30s/40s. That's hardly news to anybody, it's just that I hadn't been paying attention for most of my life. In terms of artwork and animation their shorts from that era look every bit as great as their features.
As a matter of personal preference I'll always favor the Warner Bros humor and the Fleischers' weirdness, but it's not hard to see why Disney was #1.

EDIT: What I should've said is that, with the exception of my Lonesome Ghosts viewer, I hadn't seen any of these Disney shorts until recently. I saw all the movies like every American kid, but the shorts were something I didn't watch often. And I'm not even sure I had access to them, come to think of it.
I too was a Warner Bros. kid. I came to Disney later.

A brief word about Tom & Jerry:

So it seems that this short is the only time that Tom & Jerry joined the Halloween fun, at least during their vintage years. There's two other shorts that are borderline horror-related:

Image

But aside from the somewhat-spooky title cards, these aren't very spooky. They're set in the same suburban-looking house as all their other shorts. In "Dr Jekyll", Jerry does not turn into a monster but rather just gets really muscle-y when he drinks the potion. I feel like I should mention them for the sake of completeness, but honestly they don't really scratch the Halloween itch for me so they don't make the cut here.

comments and a hot tip:
Is this as good as How the Grinch Stole Christmas? Of course not. Neither Chuck Jones nor Boris Karloff are involved for one thing (Boris had passed away, of course), but the good news is it was written and produced by Dr Suess. This one is less gothic/spooky and more Suessian/surreal.

And for the physical media die-hards out there: Last year my prayers were answered when the "Ultimate Edition Blu Ray" of HTGSC was released with the Halloween special included as a bonus.

This is one of my favorites. Daffy tries to spend the winter in a mad scientist's home, who happens to need a wishbone for an experiment...

Not overtly horror-related, but a nice mood-setter nevertheless. Remember when I said Disney was crushing it in the 30s? Holy moly this is beautiful. This won the Best Short Subject Oscar in 1938.

Want more Honey Halfwitch?
So yesterday I learned that there was a character in the 1960s named Honey Halfwitch, who was the star of 12 cartoons. They're mostly excruciating, if I'm being honest, but in the event that anyone else is into this, here's a handy reference to look up more of her toons:
https://www.bcdb.com/cartoons/Paramount ... Halfwitch/
She's got a sidekick named Fraidy Bat who talks like Lugosi, so that's kind of fun...

Rankin/Bass bonus tracks:
I was a huge fan of the R/B Animagic specials as a kid, and the fact that they never embraced Halloween as thoroughly as they did Christmas is one of my big disappointments in life. (I've had an easy life.) I get it-Christmas was their thing, but I would gladly trade The Leprechaun's Christmas Gold for one more Halloween special. So all we're left with is Mad Monster Party? which is admittedly not their best work. It's feature-length which is a bit of a slog even for me. Too many love songs. An annoying hero. Still, it's got Karloff's voice and has its fun moments.

Unfortunately the only other time R/B threw us a Halloween-flavored bone is in 1971's Here Comes Peter Cottontail. Peter sleeps through Easter and is forced to deliver his eggs on various other holidays throughout the year, including Halloween.

But most importantly, the villain of the story is voiced by Vincent Price, seen here riding his bat Montressor (which is a Cask of Amontillado reference).

Ha ha! Nice. I don't recall ever being scared by a specific cartoon but my parents love to tell the story of the time I woke up crying because I'd had a nightmare about Grover from Sesame Street. I'd love to know what went on in that dream.

Awesome! I always say, it ain't a party until someone breaks out some Gandy Goose cartoons. :)

Some of you may recall that the original Rotten Tomatoes thread was created when I was given the task of curating some cartoons for a kid's Halloween party. Well, that kid is now 14 and is currently terrorizing the neighborhood trick-or-treaters, dressed as Pennywise.
