Body Snatcher
Everything around me is evaporating. My whole life, my memories, my imagination and its contents, my personality - it's all evaporating. BONUS FILM

You're getting spoiled with this one.
Written by supermodel and Blow-Up star
Veruschka von Lehndorff, the film isn't even on KG.
You can get it on Surrealz and Cinemageddon, so it won't
cost any KG ratio. The downside is that it's in Italian
without any subtitles. Wouldn't it be grand if we had
something who could translate Italian into English?
Contribute something for the bonus film and get
5GB, but you can also still get the 5GB from one of
the regular five films. So you can get 10GB from this
set. Aren't you excited?
Hey, remember this thread?

Hey, remember this film?

Its actually on KG now, and thanks to some fine translators (none of which are named Jedi) English subs now exist! I donated 200GB to the pot... which became 400GB because of a glitch or something, so you people better start embracing Veruschka!

Almost exactly two years since you posted this!

The film is actually on KG now (also, Youtube and Vimeo!), which is where I first discovered it, probably while trawling the Italian Arthouse tag - though, one can never be quite sure where one's bookmarks came from. It goes without saying that Veruschka is nothing like the great Blow-Up; it has more in common with the Italian films of the period, such as another I recently discovered: Luigi Bazzoni's Le Orme. Both films focus on the female psychology: the latter, a kind of isolated journey through memory to discover parts that have since become misplaced, whereas the former is more of a conscious, melodramatic examination of the self. Both appear founded on the Italian pop/kitsch ideas of the period, though Veruschka is altogther more authorial: a continuation of the legendary Vogue photo-shoots of the previous decade and the swirling media stories that come with sudden popularity in the fashion world. The thing that sets this and Le Orme apart for me, someone who doesn't particularly buy into the popular style of the period to which both films belong, is the aesthetic value of each piece. Intimate, saturated photography with gorgeous pastoral flashbacks that offer a sense of depth and nostalgia. It's a shame the quality of Veruschka is so poor where the Le Orme transfer is so good - though, one couldn't possibly present the work of master cinematographer Vittorio Storaro in any other way. Ultimately, perhaps the most disappointing thing of all is that, in a film featuring a beautiful model and about a beautiful model, the most rewarding aspect is instead the music:

Set IV

THE LIZARD LIVES.

Dennis Hopper, somewhere during the 60's, probably went insane. Then he made Easy Rider, and went even further off the deep end. And between his breakthrough film in 1969 and his rehabilitation in 1983, Hopper made some of the most bizarre and drugged out films of his career. He also tried to stab Rip Torn, blow himself up at a Texas University, married and divorced Mama Michelle in two weeks, and disappeared into the desert during one particular colourful binge. My favourite bit of trivia about Herr Hopper during this time would be this: "Hopper's cocaine intake had reached three grams a day by this time period, complemented by an additional 30 beers, marijuana, and Cuba libres." I tried celebrating his birthday this year by drinking thirty beers, but I failed miserably and only made it to 14. Maybe next year!

So let's all celebrate the life and times of one of my favourite people ever, maybe even drink thirty beers while watching one of these five films? Was he even acting during them or just playing himself? I changed the thread name because I've decided to let PTP count, although I can't give any bonus over there. But if anyone downloads on PTP and does a review, they'll still get the 5GB bonus on KG.

The follow up to Easy Rider,
he didn't direct a film for nearly a decade following
the failure of this film. The American Dreamer pretty much
sums up why this film is the way it is, although I'm
sure it's easier to follow after thirty beers and some
lovely white cocaine.

Probably one of my favourite of his films, it's better to burn out

Out of the Blue is one of my favorites. He's pretty great in Tracks (and it's a great movie too). White Star looks great.

Haven't seen Tracks!

I downloaded one from '79 called Bloodbath, doesn't it sounds like the greatest thing ever?

I picked this one for Ganz and Highsmith, and was still surprised at how much I loved it. It's very intense. Hopper is a great con man with a conscience, a terrific foil for Ganz's decent man willing to do terrible things for his family. The slow build simplifies the complex plot, and makes the impact when their two worlds clash feel organic and character-driven. And, when it finally turns into the crazy buddy movie that it wants to be, they're both so happy. Chemistry! Plus, it's much prettier than a gritty 70s thriller (set almost perversely on the Hamburg docks and construction sites of Paris) has any right to be.

I'm... not sure. He's great in it, but I've only seen the Matt Damon movie to compare. He's much more likable than Damon. I did read this:
But its mood is very different to the book and the swaggering Hopper is nobody’s idea of Highsmith’s neurotic Ripley. Right? Well, having initially felt that way, Ms Highsmith herself eventually came round to The American Friend.

You're not a kg person, right?

I think my favourite part of that movie is the part I quoted with the picture, when Ripley tells him why he did it to him.

I love the way they genuinely take to each other, despite everything. Like when Ripley drops all the food, and Jonathan says, "I'm not going to live very long... like that," and they both crack up. Terminal illness humor. :)
