Is this the one from Chang-dong Lee?

Ooo, I wasn't aware of this one. Definitely goes on my list.

I dunno. Looks like a lot of....much. These films tend to fall into way too much. What other films from this writer/director would you recommend?

It is. I saw it yesterday and, even though it doesn't live up to the hype, I really liked it. The dance sequence is one of my favorite things I saw all year.
I have never seen any of Lee's other films, but I'm definitely going to make work of that.

Yeah, the trailer didn't entirely convince me either, but I liked his other movies so much I'm still excited.
Other movies of him I'd recommend are The Broken Circle Breakdown (2012), Steve + Sky (2004) and De Helaasheid der Dingen/The Misfortunates (2009). Especially that last one is a favorite of mine, a deliciously dark dramedy.

You might find TBCB to be "too much" as well, but I think it's really effective. I was really choked up at the end. Very raw.

S+S is very much a "first-time-feature" but it shows a lot of promise. A nice little romantic comedy/drama.

I don't know if his movies are easy to find/stream in the US/Canada...

I will see Beautiful Boy because of Timothee Chalamet. Really like what I've seen of him so far. Belgica was on Netflix but I don't know if it's on there anymore.

Glad to see Burning is good. I've seen all of Chang Dong-lee's films and they are great. Especially Oasis.

Guillermo del Toro’s PINOCCHIO finally happening at Netflix

Variety reports that del Toro will be co-directing the film along with Mark Gustafson (THE FANTASTIC MR. FOX) and will be co-scripting with Patrick McHale (OVER THE GARDEN WALL). Long-time GDT collaborator Guy Davis will be serving as co-production designer.

I'm living under a rock evidently, because I'm just now finding out this is directed by Michael "Trick 'r' Treat" Dougherty. I haven't been a fan of the previous films in this series, but this trailer's got me feeling tingly.

I'm curious how this will turn out. Flemish directors usually aren't that lucky when it comes to Hollywood projects. I mean, Roskam did The Drop, and Van Groeningen had Beautiful Boy last year, but that are like the only ones (that people know about).

Is it a reboot or a sequel? Because if it's a reboot I would cream my shorts if they showed the actual origin of the Squad when they faced a 500 foot tall lava golem sent by Darkseid.

For that matter, I'd love to see them fight the Female Furies. That was one of the first storylines in their series.

So is this Shaft a long-in-the-waiting sequel to the original SLJ Shaft, which itself was a sequel to the original original Shaft, sort of like how the last Halloween was a sequel to the original Halloween which had nothing to do with the Rob Zombie Halloween? Urgh Hollywood, stop recycling your titles so much...
